In this triptych, the pedal line consists only of a few slow-moving notes while the manual parts provide thematic material in general fall within five-finger range or the natural position of the hand. However, the harmonic language and modulations in some passages may require more attention from the young performer. These pieces will also provide the student organist the opportunity to gain interpretive skills under the guidance of a teacher. For example, in the second movement, “Légende du Vent,” the performer must consider the musical flow between sections, the required manual changes, and effective use of the swell box. The indications of registrations, dynamics, and tempi are meant to be suggestions only. The pieces must be adapted to each instrument and acoustics, and they must be treated with great freedom and creativity.
