Franz Schubert's Trio in E-flat for piano, violin and violoncello was regarded by many contemporaries as the epitome of a chamber music composition with piano soon after its publication. The present edition of the parts with the Urtext of the new Schubert edition contains the original, unabridged version of the final movement and thus important new aspects for an interpretation that is true to the work. Appropriate labeling makes it possible to perform both the unabridged version and the well-known abridged version of this work, which, in the words of Robert Schumann, spread across musical life at the time “like a heavenly phenomenon”.
